Movies That’ll Make You Forget You’re in Quarantine

With Nothin’ But Time on Your Hands, You Can Kick Back and Enjoy a Feature Film

ELIOTT MEYERS, Achor/Reporter

Stay-at-home order got you down? Have a lot of time on your hands? Maybe a trip to the couch for a good movie will lift your spirits.

The movies or franchises shown on this list are in no particular order. Each one usually involves some sort of journey. They were chosen because I think they are quality movies, but mainly because they don’t take place in one or two central locations. So certain movies will be left out because of their relatively small scale. The movies I chose are meant to make you forget you are stuck inside. Hopefully, you enjoy these movies as much as I do.

  1. 1917

1917 follows Lance Cpl. Schofield and Lance Cpl. Blake in an impossible mission across no man’s land to stop an attack on Germany’s “Hindenburg” line. A wide range of set pieces were used in the making of this movie. The movie was also filmed in a way that makes you feel like you are on the mission with them. It does a great job of showing the harsh realities of trench warfare. You never feel like the characters are safe. It’s a gripping tale that will make you forget that you’re stuck inside.

  1. The Godfather Trilogy

This is a classic mafia tale about Micheal Corleone attempting to gain control and respect over the “family business.” The movies have several different locations from Palermo, the town of Corleone, and three different eras of New York. These classic movies are always worth a watch.

  1. The Toy Story Movies

These modern Pixar classics are always a great watch, and you haven’t lived until you’ve seen them. Every movie involves a question related to toys and always manages to make itself different from its predecessors. Each movie involves Buzz and Woody going on some kind of journey to answer the question the movie asks. For example, Toy Story 3 asks what happens when a toy’s kid grows up. These movies are a great way to spend your time.

  1. Catch Me If You Can

This movie is an extremely fast-paced tale about Frank Abagnale who posed as a Pan America World Airways pilot. He used this and unending confidence to cash in millions of dollars in fake checks. He did this before age 19. The movie follows the cat and mouse game played by him and FBI agent, Carl Hanratty. Frank even at one point cons the FBI agent. This movie is sure to be a good few hours of entertainment that you are sure to enjoy.

  1. Apollo 13

This journey will take you out of this world with Jim Lovel and his crew on the Apollo 13 mission to the moon. This mission almost became one of history’s most tragic events. The astronauts were stuck in space for more than a week without heat or sleep. This exciting space thriller will not only take you out of your house. It takes you out of this world.

  1. UP

This heartwarming movie will make you go up, up, and away from inside your house.

  1. Wall-E

Pixar’s classic tale of robot love is sure to take you out of your house and into the Axium as you flee a post-apocalyptic world.

  1. Saving Private Ryan

The journey across Northern France to save a private in the 101st Airborne who lost all his brothers is an exciting and unusually gritty World War II movie. It shows the tough realities of Omaha Beach on D-Day, as well as the chaos of the para drops. Spielberg’s classic tale is a must watch for this quarantine.

  1. Monty Python and the Holy Grail

This is a classic tale of absolute silliness. King Arthur’s quest for the Holy Grail is undeniably hilarious.  And as we all know, laughter is the best medicine. Be sure to give it a watch.

  1. Star Wars (Original Trilogy)

This doesn’t really need an explanation. Star Wars is a cultural icon always worth a watch.

  1. Indiana Jones

Indiana Jones is a classic movie series. The journey that he goes on is an interesting tale about finding artifacts. Give them a watch.

  1. Forrest Gump

Forrest Gump is the classic tale of America between the post World War II era and the Watergate era. This movie hits both qualifiers in terms of a journey, as well as a diverse group of sets and locations. It’s always a great watch.
